Cartlann Imeachtaí

Ó thráth a bhunaithe sa bhliain 2005 ar aghaidh tá go leor imeachtaí agus gníomhaíochtaí eagraithe ag Cumann Gaelach Lucsamburg mar chuid dá mhisiún úsáid na Gaeilge mar mheán cumarsáide a ghríosú agus a spreagadh i Lucsamburg agus le heolas ar chultúr agus oidhreacht Ghaeilge na hÉireann a fhorleathnú i Lucsamburg.

Gach Deireadh Fómhair eagraíonn an Cumann Gaelach comórtas Tráth na gCeist Gaeilge chun airgead a bhailiú.  Gach Nollag eagraítear comórtas Bingo Gaeilge le daoine ar bheagán Gaeilge a mhealleadh isteach in imeachtaí an Chumainn.

Léacht Willibrord

Ó 2007 ar aghaidh eagraíonn an Cumann Gaelach Lucsamburg léacht bhliantiúl Béarla, a ghlaotar Léacht Willibrord air, i gcomhar le hAmbasadóir na hÉireann, a Shoilse Máirtín de Búrca, Cultúr Éireann agus an Scoil Eorpach.  Mar chuid den tsraith léachtanna seo tugtar cuireadh do dhuine mór le rá i saol na Gaeilge in Éirinn teacht go Lucsamburg chun léacht Béarla a thabhairt ar ghné éigin de shaol, de stair nó de shaíocht na Gaeilge.

Ba é an tOllamh Alan Titley a thug an t-aitheasc tionscnaimh faoin teideal “Irish: A Big Language With A Small Base” oíche Déardaoin, an 1ú Márta 2007.  An bhliain dar gcionn do thug an file cáiliúil Gaeilge Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill léamh dátheangach filíochta ón duanaire is déanaí uaithi “The Fifty Minute Mermaid” faoin mórtheideal “Irish: A Subtitled Language?” ar an 21ú Feabhra 2008.  Ar an 12ú Feabhra 2009 thug an tAontachtóir Ultach agus scoláire, an Dr Ian Malcolm, léacht dar teideal “Towards Inclusion: Ulster Protestant Perspectives on the Irish Language”.

Ainmnítear an tsraith léachtanna seo in onóir Willibrord Naofa, Éarlamh Lucsamburg, a chaith 12 bliain (678-690 A.D.) ag saothrú an léinn in Éirinn.


Event Archive

Since its foundation in 2005 Cumann Gaelach Lucsamburg has organised many events and activities as part of its mission of popularising the use of Irish as a medium of communication and increasing awareness of Ireland’s Gaelic language culture in Luxembourg generally.

Each October the Cumann Gaelach organises an annual fundraising Irish language table quiz.  Every December a special Bingo ‘as Gaeilge’ is organised  with the objective of drawing those with little Irish into the fold of the club.

The Willibrord Lecture

Since 2007 Cumann Gaelach Lucsamburg, in association with His Excellency the Ambassador of Ireland, Mr. Martin Burke, Culture Ireland and the European School, has organised the Willibrord Lecture- a public lecture in the English language at which a guest speaker from Ireland delivers an address on a particular aspect of the Irish language.

The first lecture was delivered by Professor Dr. Alan Titley, Chair of Modern Irish at University College, Cork on Thursday, March 1st 2007 on the theme “Irish: A Big Language With A Small Base”.  On February 21st 2008 Irish language poet Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill gave a bilingual poetry reading from her most recent anthology “The Fifty Minute Mermaid” under the lecture title “Irish: A Subtitled Language?” On February 12th 2009 Ulster Unionist and scholar Dr Ian Malcolm delivered an allocution entitled “Towards Inclusion: Ulster Protestant Perspectives on the Irish Language”.

The Lecture series is named in honour of St. Willibrord, Patron Saint of Luxembourg, who spent 12 years studying in Ireland (678-690AD).
